Born and bred in Germany, Ilse Seidel moved to New Zealand in 1998. While working as multimedia designer in the IT industry in her former life, she was always passionate about colour and fibre and inspired by the New Zealand environment she developed her own style as fibre artist and feltmaker – a combination of European tradition set free by the spirit of a young country. Nature is her inspiration.
She paints on wool and with wool loves to create colourful work. She is working mainly with NZ merino wool, which she mostly dyes herself
2007 I received the 1st Entrant Award of the Creative Fibre Northland Exhibition.
Her true passion is to create quirky and unusual fibre art and she loves to combine fibre with different materials in a surprising way.
Recently she extended her range to mixed-media work and is happily playing with fluid acrylics and alcohol inks.
