Joanne Barrett
Guest Artist

Joanne's paintings are influenced by the strength and spirituality of Te Waipounamu landscapes and of the beautiful Hokianga where she now lives. Shaped by her long career as a graphic designer, she employs her unique style to create conceptualised landforms using layers of multiple interactions allowing for textures to be formed and carved into the surface.

These carved lines denote whakapapa or lineage and generations of growth of all that lives in and on the land. The intricate layers of painted constructions reflect the essential structure or essence of the land. Using earthy tones her works create a deeper relationship both above and beneath the surface giving the viewer a sense connection with the wairua, the spirit of Papatuanuku.
