Assemblage / Upcycling Painting

Amanda is a Kerikeri resident of nearly 40 years, the eldest of 8 children, where 'home' was a special place to be.

Her interest in houses, buildings and architecture made its way onto canvases about 10yrs ago, and there her journey began into the beautiful artistic world of colour. Two years ago, while collecting treasures from the beach, she was inspired to create wee homes, made from off cuts of different types of timber, lovingly recycled to bring back a bit of beautiful in something, that would otherwise be discarded.

Amanda gets lost in time creating these wee homes, little places of safety, connection, growth and love. Each home is handmade, unique and some have a message to share.

"I hope my works can bring a smile, some comfort, an encouragement to one's day."

Teresa Lane

Teresa Lane
Assemblage / Upcycling Drawing / Illustration Painting

Teresa HR Lane, creates visual equality by disrupting a comfortable gaze. Motivated by the immediate, the sublime and an abundant collection of carefully selected printed matter, Lane confounds  expectations of the surreal figurative and abstract landscape by dismembering and reassembling information, using an intricate photographic mixed media collage practice, painting with paper, drawing with scissors. Offering the viewer an alternative vision, interwoven into an ethereal place, imagined but firmly entrenched in an irreverent reality.

After a long absence, Lane has reconnected with the rural, returning from central Tamaki Makaurau to Te Tai Tokerau. Here Lane’s practice has dramatically shifted into a new realm, informed by the immediate landscape of an absent forest, a silent birdcall and a naked land wearing nothing but livestock.  Finding new inspiration from this land and a poignant selection of locally sourced art, books & magazines which frame the complex history of Aotearoa/New Zealand, Lane weaves our past into our present,  examining the familiar trope of ‘Gods Own’, dissecting the illusion of our perceived visual paradise know as Aotearoa.

Lane received an MFA from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland, 2017. Recipient of Akel Schulte Runner-up Award, Molly Morpeth Canaday Painting and Drawing Award 2019, finalist National Contemporary Art Award 2019 & Wallace Awards 2017. Included in public and private collections.
