Hugh McKechnie is a wood sculptor and carver specialising in contemporary New Zealand-style art created from recycled timbers such as kauri, puriri, and totara. His work features a range of pieces suited for gardens, patios, and interiors; including love and aroha motifs, koru designs, memorials, special occasion gifts, waka, weapons, lizards, fish, platters, and bowls.
A highlight of Hugh’s collection is a magnificent giant kauri hei matau (fishhook). Known for his passion and communication through art, Hugh pours heart and soul into every commissioned piece, ensuring each is unique. His work can also be seen at the Bay of Islands Golf Club in Kerikeri.
