Originally from Zimbabwe, Max Daillecourt has called Kerikeri home for the past 23 years. Though he studied art through to A Level during his school years, life led him down a different path, and creative pursuits were set aside as he entered the working world.
It wasn’t until his recent retirement that Max returned to painting; a long-dormant passion reignited. What began as a quiet hobby has evolved into a vital and joyful part of his daily life. Working primarily in acrylics, Max is drawn to impressionism for its freedom, vibrancy, and emotional depth. His work often explores imagined gardens and still life scenes, blending memory with creativity in expressive, textured brushwork.
Returning to art after decades has been both grounding and liberating. Each piece reflects a personal journey; an exploration of color, form, and feeling. Max’s impressionistic style breathes life into the everyday, painting the poetry of familiar forms reimagined through memory and imagination.
