Peter Sharp
Painting

Peter Sharp’s Reflections of Puheke is a meditation on observation and the craft of painting. Through many thin layers of oil paint on board, he captures the kaleidoscope of colours where the mountain meets its surroundings, offering viewers a glimpse into the visual splendour of this stunning landscape.

Puheke, a small mountain on the Karikari Peninsula in Northland, is framed by sand dunes and the Pacific Ocean on one side, with scrubby bush, pampas, wetlands, and lakes on the inland side. A tea-coloured stream weaves through the terrain beneath an ever-changing southern sky; elements that inspire Peter’s evocative and richly layered work.
