Ruth Simpson
Painting

Ruth Simpson has been a member of the Bay of Islands Painting Group since 2001, regularly meeting with fellow artists for inspiration and creative growth. Workshops and gallery visits motivate her to explore beyond her comfort zone, resulting in a diverse body of work.

Ruth primarily paints in acrylics; chosen for their portability to weekly art classes; but also enjoys working with oils and occasionally takes on the challenge of watercolour. While capable of fine brush detail, she finds her greatest joy in using the palette knife, embracing the looser, freer style it allows.

Her work ranges from realistic landscapes to more experimental pieces featuring geometric designs and “bending buildings.” Ruth is increasingly exploring semi-abstract styles, eager to see where this creative path leads.

Ruth Simpson will be exhibiting at stop 45 during KOAST 2025 - buy a KOAST Trail Guide for further details!
